Igor Travels Abroad

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take."

It’s becoming so real.

I cannot explain how real this exchange program is becoming. I have already purchased luggage, I am traveling as much as possible to see all my family before departure, and the stress, I don’t know how to explain it. You, as a reader might ask, why are you doing this? And I answer, ” To learn the scientific language for a better education in engineering and blah, blah, blah.”

You see, many people don’t understand.

It’s about adventure, about saying I had a dream and it became reality.

It’s about saying, ” I know I can climb a mountain; I don’t need the see all of it, but to take the first step.” And step after step, it brings me to the top, where I can exclaim to the world below, “Look at what I have accomplished! I am accomplished”

To those who returned from their one year voyage, Congratulations!

I will soon be in your footsteps and am eager to do this. I will have some amazing days and some the worst days.

To those accompanying me, I wish you the best. I wish you safe travels, joy, friendship, and confidence. I wish you to have the time of your life and I wish I do the same.

So, host family, where ever you are! Please find me! The wait feels like forever. But you know what they say? Best for last. And I pray that I will have a great family. I just know I will.

As I part with you tonight, I would like you to read my favorite quote, as of this morning, given to me on a card, from my tutor as a farewell present, and fellow German exchange student.

“Life is a storm, my young friend. You may be basking in the sun one moment then shattered upon the rocks in the next. What makes you a man is what you do when the storm comes. You must look straight into it and shout, as you did in Rome, ‘Do your worst, for I will do mine'”

Thank you and good night,
Igor
